Garden as a sculpture/ An offer to re-utilize public green
Künstlerdorf Schöppingen / Münsterland

A public ornamental area in the artist’s village of Schöppingen - Münsterland has been transformed into productive land. The vegetable or kitchen garden as a part of public space functions as a connecting piece between artists and the village people. The plants are exclusively plant donations of the inhabitants of the village. Mixed planting, the community of different plants and their tolerance to each other were tested here. Orchards with old types of fruit-trees are still tended and used, as well as the rest of the garden. Deliberately, this garden hasn’t been designed as a private garden and demands care, sensitivity, social behaviour and continuity by those utilizing it.
